Monty’s Men 2025 Trip – Prinses Irene Brigade

For 2025 Monty’s Men are heading to The Netherlands.

We will be portraying troops of the Free Dutch forces Prinses Irene Brigade (PIB) during the fighting to liberate North Brabant. The PIB was formed in 1941 in the United Kingdom as the Royal Netherlands Motorized Infantry Brigade from Dutch nationals that had escaped from the Netherlands following the German invasion. This group included military., police and civilian escapers. The unit grew as many volunteers with Dutch heritage joined the brigade. Volunteers came from as far afield as Canada, UK, USA, Brasil and South Africa as well as closer to home. The Brigade also received recruits via conscription.

The Brigade was attached to 21st Army Group for operations in NW Europe. At the period we will portray on the trip the Brigade consisted of a Brigade HQ (staff, provost, intelligence, medical, chaplaincy, LAD, transportation, signals etc), a battery of 25 pounders (8 guns) and 3 Independent Infantry Companies (the integral reconnaissance unit has been disbanded in December 1944). Each infantry company comprised 4 rile platoons (each of a PLT HQ and 3 rifle sections) and a support group consisting of MMG, anti-tank, anti-aircraft and 3-inch mortar platoons. It is the infantry platoons that will be the focus of the trip. It is hoped to have enough attendees to represent 4 platoons and some associated elements of the company command and support group.
